Buxom
Visit website
Cowgirl cabaret duo, Buxom, is formed by cellist/vocalist Ashia Grzesik and guitarist/vocalist Amanda Richards. These two met as finalists in one of Portland’s open mic competitions in 2008. Their outrageously funny and off-color material found them competing head to head for a cash prize of $1,000. Ashia ended up taking home the cash, but the dirty duo was formed regardless for the love of sultry vocal harmonies and beguiling racy lyrics. Amanda Richards’ bohemian country background and fingerstyle guitar-work lays a handsome foundation, while Ashia liberally inserts whimsical alt-cabaret cello lines that will leave the listener begging for more. |

Kellita
Visit website
Reigning Carnaval SF Queen Kellita descends from a long line of sassy dancers. Her Spanish grandmother routinely danced flamenco on tabletops while her Lebanese aunt entertained vaudeville audiences as The Chocolate Princess with her signature hula striptease dance. Kellita continues the tradition of interpreting ethnic dance through a showgirl lense. While classically trained, it was her introduction to samba, cabaret and burlesque that opened her floodgates of enthusiasm.
When not directing her beloved dance troupe, Hot Pink Feathers, Kellita delights audiences with her captivating solo acts. She has ventured a la carte to grace stages from Hollywood to the Big Apple and from Alaska to Costa Rica, leaving glitter and grins in her wake. Kellita was named Little Miss Aftershock (a title she shares with Miss Indigo Blue!) for her outstanding shimmy-shake at the Miss Exotic World Contest and earned a nod to her main instrument of bump n' grind at the New York Burlesque Festival with a Golden Pastie for Best Derriere.
Kellita's choreography won First Place in Original World Dance in Carnaval San Francisco 2005 and 2006, and Hot Pink Feathers are winners of the San Francisco Bay Guardian's "BEST OF THE BAY 2008". Kellita is delighted to share the love of samba burlesque and world cabaret dance technique and choreography with students far and wide through the Hot Pink Feathers Showgirl Academy, based in San Francisco, offering mobile classes and workshops wherever she is called! |

Rob Williams
No telling what he has planned this time but the last time we saw Rob at the Moisture Festival his act consisted of removing meat from packages, peeling plastic wrap off of cheese slices, putting mayonnaise and mustard onto bread and making a bologna sandwich!? ... Like abstract or dada art, there were many who, upon hearing that that was his plan, had said "my kid could do that." It's not like the guy is without talent. He was one of the famous Flaming Idiots who took their comedy show to theaters across the country and on to Broadway. The N. Y. Times gave them high praise: "They demonstrate what escapist entertainment is all about." (well, high praise to those of us who work in this field of the business). ... did I mention that he made those sandwiches with his bare feet? Yeah, they were clean feet (we watched him wash up first) and yeah, someone ate the sandwich (so did Jay Leno when he did it on his show). But again ... we don't know what he's bringing this time. We just know that Rob Williams will make you laugh at odd times ... and that's an art in itself. |

Sydni Deveraux
Visit website
Sydni’s been told since she was 15 years old that she has amazing stage presence-but she's an accomplished performer who has given more than just her body to the business of burlesque. Last year she even listed and put out her advice to those who might consider entering the burlesque world as performers. Some of my favorites include #15 “If you can’t twirl, just don’t. Please.” And #13 “If you can’t get past your body flaws for the 3 minutes that you’re on stage, none of us will either.” She talked about costume and shoes and make up and hair, about facial expressions and being on time for the show, the courtesy owed to the producers and the audience but maybe most telling is her advice listed as #11 “Watch a ton of burlesque. Submerge yourself in it. Swim in it! Breathe it. If you just want to take off your clothes in cute little costumes and have men oogle you, I suggest a trip down to your local strip club on contest night to get it out of your system.”
With Sydni Deveraux you’ll see a burlesque artist who takes the work of being sexy and fun (and funny) seriously. It doesn’t look like work while she dances and entertains you, and it shouldn’t, but she didn’t settle for natural talent, she continues to find ways to give to the art form and … to the audience. Yum.

Tamara the Trapeze Lady
Visit website
Tamara’s role as a producer of burlesque with a historical interest in the fun side of the art form has surely helped to shape her clever performance. Her production of the Fallen Women Follies in Seattle in the 1990s was an incubator for this town’s thriving burlesque scene.
It’s been said that her shows are “not your father’s burlesque” but that they might be recognizable to your grandfather. If so, there’s a fair chance that your grandmother did not disapprove. As Tamara has described it a successful burlesque show then or now is “about as innocent as you can get and still be sexy.”
She says of her shows: “Women enjoy it. It’s not all naked, just sexy, cute and fun. Lots of mothers come to see their daughters working ...” She doubts that that’s true of the straight strip clubs where the emphasis is on the grind without the fun. Therein lies the difference … burlesque at its best today has recaptured the joy while retaining the enticement and titillation. She can be seen Saturday nights once a month hosting and performing in her Columbia City Cabaret and starting March 19th you can see her co-starring in "Vamps and Vixens" cabaret at Julias Restaurant on Broadway. But right now you can see her at the Moisture Festival burlesque. Enjoy! |

Zebra Kings
It is a little known fact that this unique show band is made up almost entirely of actual kings! True, some earned their crowns only in online video games and simulated communities and the rest gained their titles by winning childhood free-for-all contests and such but ... um ... well, okay, forget the "King" part of the name. It's the "Zebra" part that really matters. Those jackets (white with black stripes, not the other way around) are not bestowed lightly. The mystique surrounding the jackets sometimes misdirects the attention which should be properly placed on the music that this proud band produces. The music itself ... ut oh ... I'm out of space ... sorry |
